High End Systems took to the streets of New York (literally) to interview LD Mike Baldassari and lighting director/programmer Marty Postma in Vol. 5 of our video interview series, "What Pros Say."

During their experience with using DL.2s and the Wholehog 3 on the Alice in Chains reunion tour, the lighting pros gave us their thoughts on digital lighting and future trends.

A noted Broadway show designer, Baldassari stepped out of the theatre to create something other-worldly for Alice in Chains. For past concerts he served as lighting director on Garth Brooks: Live from Central Park (which got him an Emmy nomination) and for Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" tour.

Back in the theare, he co-designed the Broadway hit revival of Cabaret, for which he received the Entertainment Design Award (along with Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations). National tours include Man of La Mancha, Saturday Night Fever, Fame, Spiderman Live, Grease and more. His work has been seen worldwide including multiple productions of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret and Blast II - Music in Extreme in Japan.

Marty Postma spent six years as the resident LD at Webster Hall in New York, where he honed his High End Systems equipment skills. Last year he went freelance, forming his company Retainal Resonance. Before Alice in Chains, he was lighting director on Moby's European tour. His agenda also includes music festivals and corporate events, all with a Wholehog 3 and many times Catalyst v4 at his side. He also programs Off Broadway shows including Bare, Dog Eaters, Book of the Dead and The Awesome '80s Prom.
