How does content affect playback and other computer performance?
If you pay attention to the resolution, codec and quality setting used to create the movie files on your Catalyst system, you may identify areas where you can economize data use and get more out of your setup:
determine the resolution, framerate and movie quality setting that works best for you - often a quality setting of 50% will meet your needs instead of 80% and the performance savings can be significant due to the lower datarate.
if compressing content, use a codec suited for your needs
It is possible for every Catalyst media server to have different capabilities depending on the drive system installed, CPU and video card capabilities, motherboard architecture, available RAM, system or application software versions, and other active processes running on the server. Some basic setup and maintenance principles that every Catalyst user should practice include:
maintain a clean Catalyst system containing only software and hardware required for Catalyst use - don't install games, extra utilities, productivity, or other non-essential software which can consume resources required by Catalyst or create other conflicts
when adding a new hardware or software component to your Catalyst system, test each change separately and thoroughly to ensure a change is compatible with existing components and does not introduce new problems.
