Will Catalyst software run on a laptop computer?
Catalyst software will launch on a laptop computer, which can be useful for training purposes or FOH monitoring, but laptops in general won't have the graphics processing and disk I/O level for optimal performance. By using the standalone programming and features, you can develop minimalistic performaces in Catalyst and PixelMad as well. The remote broadcast feature allows you to send broadcast commands and also monitor the performance and paramters of multiple computers from one computer or laptop on the same connection.
Keep in mind that some Catalyst features won't be usable if a laptop can't use the hardware, expansion cards, or other devices required. The Apple G5 Desktop computer architecture enables Catalyst users to:
take advantage of video compression codecs that have been optimized for dual processor computers, and
use internal bays for advanced drive systems, PCI and PCI-X cards to extend video capabilities which are part the G5's expansion capabilities and benefit from professional-grade graphics cards for use with sophisticated display devices.
