As of this writing, Catalyst® Media Server Software versions 3.3 g21 are supported on Mac OS X 10.3.3 and 10.3.5 through 10.3.9.  Some customers using 30 FPS playback settings in conjunction with 60Hz display refresh rates have reported playback issues, especially on newer versions of Mac OS X, such as 10.3.5 through 10.3.9. In affected setups, the Statistics HUD will display the graphics statistic as  >= 100% and playback may not be smooth. Horizontal tearing defects may also be visible. Playback settings of 25 FPS in conjunction with 75Hz display refresh rates function correctly.

Possible Solution: Customers experiencing any of the issues described above should download and configure ATi Displays v4.4.2. Here is an example configuration of the utility:

If this configuration does not solve your problems, the "High Performance" preset or other settings may help.

Step-by-step instructions:
1. Download and install ATi Displays v4.4.2. Restart the G5 after installing the software.
2. Locate the specific Catalyst application you are using (i.e. which hard drive it resides on, which folder, etc)
3. Open System Preferences from the apple menu.
4. Click on "ATI Displays"
5. Click on the ATi button that comes up
6. On the left side the window that comes up, click on "3D". This will open the settings window for OpenGL Overrides
7. Click the "Add" button and navigate to the exact version of the Catalyst application you are using on your show. Once the Catalyst application is located and selected, click "Choose".
8. On the settings window for OpenGL Overrides, apply the settings as seen here
9. Close preference windows
10. Launch the same exact version of Catalyst application specified in steps 2 and 7

Note: Further adjustment of OpenGL Overrides may be required to reduce perceivable playback defects, for example the "High Performance" preset can be used and/or other settings.

Alternative to the use of this utility software, use playback settings that differ from 30 FPS and display refresh rates of 60Hz, such as 25 FPS and 75Hz.
