Lithuanian pop star Gytis Paškevičius recently played the largest concert of his 2017 homeland tour at Žalgirio Arena. For the landmark show in Kaunas’ new 20,000 seater, lighting designer Arvydas Buinauskas used High End Systems SolaSpot Pro CMY automated fixtures to add the necessary punch and eye candy to the concert’s visuals, while controlling the show via his trusty Hog 4 lighting console.
Buinauskas often specifies the SolaSpots for beautiful outdoor architectural lighting, but says this time he got to put the fixtures through their full paces. He comments, “I hung ten SolaSpots on the front truss, and used them primarily as front light for all the singers and musicians. The SolaSpot’s powerful output opens up so many creative possibilities. The fixture’s color mixing is very good, and I like to mix in the indigo highlighter function at times as well.”
For some years, the Hog 4 has been Buinauskas’ desk of choice for all his performance environments. He says, “The Hog 4 platform is stable, powerful and very intuitive to use. I prefer the flagship Hog 4’s expanded outputs and versatile monitor and layout options. Actually, programming this show was quite easy - everything was checked before the concert by using the HOG 4 desk with Capture Nexum visualization.”
The lighting design was created by Buinauskas’ company ABLight, while lighting and sound gear was provided by Combo Event Maintenance, with LED screens through Video Projects.
